ME AND FLEA MARKETS

One of my greatest passions is to go in search of flea markets or purchases at auctions, including international ones. It’s pure adrenalin to find, discover and make a good deals on objects that others do not need, or (lucky me) they do not know their value. (continues below)

When day X arrives, markets are usually on weekends, it’s like going on a treasure hunt in a Alice in Wonderland – kind of mood. Almost always accompanied by Nicoletta, if in Prague, or by Anna in Italy. A pure euphoria for shopping cannot be experienced alone! Also, because it often happens to load ourselves with so many things that two arms are not enough. (continues below)

Snow, rain, ice or very strong wind never stop the desire to wake up at 6 in the morning. Only Covid has succeeded. But, luckily internet always works!

Once at home, the unbridled desire to unpack already arrives at the door. The pinnacle of contentment is reached when the objects are removed from the dishwasher and I start decorating! By now I have reached a point, that for every dinner I could have a new set of dishes and decorations for at least 3 houses. But the greatest satisfaction is the fact that everything is cheap. Men, call them junk, in fact they are, but if I think that objects lives longer than people, it’s nice to revive them from generation to generation, giving them a second life…(continues below)

They are small treasures that pass between different eras, from deco to liberty or whatever.

Today I share this summer’s photos with Anna in Arezzo (Italy), one of the most beautiful antiques markets in Europe. Once you’ve made your purchases, a plate of pasta or ribollita accompanied by a glass of good red wine, crowns perfectly a Tuscan summer day.
